Vijaya is a birth defects epidemiologist, with a focus on surveillance, etiology, and prevention of congenital malformations. She is currently working as a faculty in the Department of Epidemiology, Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University. Vijaya also work as an epidemiologist at the Center for Spina Bifida Prevention, housed at Emory University. Her current projects at the Center include epidemiology of spina bifida and anencephaly in high burden countries, status of global prevention of folic acid-preventable neural tube defects, and science-based advocacy for folic acid fortification. She is also studying mortality associated with spina bifida and anencephaly in developing countries, and their contribution to perinatal, infant, neonatal, and under-five mortality estimates. Vijaya would like to expand her researchto life course and long-term outcomes among children and young adults with spina bifida internationally.
